Trump To Putin: ‘Stop The Strikes’, As Kyiv Burns, Calls For Urgent Peace Deal Now

Trump Blasts Russian Attack on Ukraine

On April 24, former US President Donald Trump publicly condemned Russian President Vladimir Putin for a nighttime deadly attack on Kyiv that killed a minimum of eight civilians and injured more than 80. Going on to his Truth Social platform, Trump said he was frustrated, terming the missile attacks “not necessary” and ill-timed.

“I do not welcome Russian attacks on KYIV. Unnecessary and worst timing ever. Vladimir, STOP! 5000 weekly soldiers are dead. Let us FINISH THE Peace Deal!” Trump tweeted.

Zelenskyy Abbreviates Trip

Reacting to the strike, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said he was ending a diplomatic visit to South Africa prematurely. The Kremlin press secretary Dmitry Peskov had meanwhile confirmed the attack, adding that Russia persisted in hitting “military and military-adjacent” facilities.

Tensions Flare Over Crimea Comments

The remark came only a day after Trump slammed Zelenskyy for reiterating Ukraine’s stand not to acknowledge Russia’s takeover of Crimea a line Kyiv had long upheld.

This is extremely detrimental to the Peace Negotiations with Russia,” Trump asserted, while Crimea was “lost years ago” and now no longer on the agenda, he added.

European Leaders Support Ukraine

French President Emmanuel Macron was loud in his backing of Kyiv, declaring that Ukraine should not be forced towards peace when under attack.

We will go on defending the right of the Ukrainian people to live in their internationally recognized borders,” Macron stated.

Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen made a similar statement, denouncing the Russian attacks as proof that the Kremlin did not have any serious interest in peace.

“Peace cannot be negotiated under fire,” he said. “Denmark stands with Ukraine against this brutality.
