India’s inaugural Astro tourism campaign, “Nakshatra Sabha,” was launched at George Everest Peak in Mussoorie on Saturday, June 1. George Everest Peak, a prominent tourist attraction in Mussoorie, provides breathtaking views of the snow-covered Himalayan peaks and the Doon Valley.

The Uttarakhand Tourism Development Board, in collaboration with Starscapes, which is recognized as India’s leading Astro tourism company, is jointly organizing the event. This event, which has attracted significant attention and participation, concludes today, June 2.

Following this, Astro tourism events will also be organized in various other locations across the country, including but not limited to Harsil-Jadung, Benital, Rishikesh, Jageshwar, and Ramnagar.

Various engaging activities, such as learning the intricacies of astrophotography from seasoned experts, stargazing through advanced instruments, solar observation using specialized solar glasses and an H-Alpha filter, and gaining skills in navigation and timekeeping, were meticulously organized as part of the event.

In addition to these interactive experiences, the event also featured insightful expert talks on astro tourism, captivating astrophotography competitions, and a series of impressive astronomical demonstrations.

The state tourism department, in alignment with the vision set forth by Chief Minister of Uttarakhand Pushkar Singh Dhami, has undertaken a proactive initiative to foster a diverse range of tourism activities within the state, going beyond the scope of religious tourism.

The Tourism Minister of Uttarakhand, Satpal Maharaj, mentioned that the government’s goal is to ensure that tourists visiting the state have a fulfilling experience and the Nakshatra Sabha is a move towards achieving that objective.

Emphasis is also being laid on the development of new tourist destinations within the state, as highlighted by Tourism Minister Satpal Maharaj of Uttarakhand.
