Mumbai: Parts Of The City Witness Heavy Rain, Conditions Favorable For Monsoon In Maharashtra Says IMD

As Northern India continues to deal with Heatwave, in contrast, parts of Maharashtra including Mumbai continue to witness rainfall, as skies remain partially cloudy.

The capital of the state Mumbai witnessed a heavy rainfall, following the announcement of yellow alert (Heavy rain to very heavy rain) by IMD.

Besides Mumbai, other places of Maharashtra like Raigad, Thane, Pune etc. are also likely to witness heavy rainfall.

Talking to ANI, Chief scientist of IMD Sunil Kamble said,

‘The pace of rain in Mumbai had reduced a bit in the last 2-3 days, but now it is gaining momentum. The monsoon current is becoming moderately strong. For the coming 2-3 days, we have given yellow alerts in Mumbai, Thane and Raigad areas. We have also given yellow alerts for the entire Vidarbha.’

Meanwhile, the IMD has predicted more monsoon for remaining parts of Maharashtra for next 3 to 4 days saying, conditions for advancing southwest Monsoon at the state are favourable.

Despite the rain slowing down in Mumbai, it is now gaining momentum. Further the IMD has also predicted light to moderate rainfall with thunderstorms and lighting in Gujarat, Konkan area, Goa and Marthwada region of Maharashtra in upcoming 5 days.

‘Isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall very likely over Konkan & Goa and ghat areas of Madhya Maharashtra during June 22 to 26 and isolated heavy rainfall over Gujarat region and Marathwada on June 23’ predicts IMD.
