Startling details have emerged from an internal investigation into the ragging-related death case at Jadavpur University. Shockingly, the victim was not promptly taken to the hospital after his fall from a hostel floor. Instead, a general body meeting was convened before providing any medical assistance.
Sources close to the university’s investigative team informed The Daily Guardian that two students locked the hostel gates immediately after the incident. Curiously, these students have now gone missing. The absence of CCTV cameras on the campus presents a significant challenge to the ongoing inquiry.
The deceased, a first-year Arts undergraduate, passed away under suspicious circumstances following the incident on August 9. Numerous fellow students reveal that the 17-year-old, a Bangla department student, was allegedly subjected to intense mental and physical strain due to ragging in the hostel. This distressing situation purportedly led him to leap from the second-floor balcony.
Several students implicated in the alleged ragging incident, which resulted in the tragic demise of the Nadia student, are currently evading authorities. The victim’s father has made the distressing claim that his son had also suffered sexual harassment. Remarkably, the student had only moved into the hostel a mere two days before the fateful incident occurred. Media accounts suggest that the victim had expressed concerns about his safety to his mother and had a desire to return home.
According to the police, the student was heard shouting, “I am not gay,” before plummeting from the JU Boys’ Main Hostel building at approximately 11:45 pm on August 9. He remained exposed under the hostel balcony, unclothed, for a prolonged period. Tragically, the KPC Medical College pronounced him deceased around 4:30 am the following morning, hours after his blood-soaked body was brought to their facilities.
Based on information from the University Inquiry Committee’s sources, individuals who have been interrogated thus far were reportedly cognizant of the ragging and sexual harassment incidents that transpired that night.
