A day after the deadly Pahalgam attack, security forces shot dead two terrorists in Baramulla, Jammu and Kashmir. The Indian Army confirmed the terrorists tried to infiltrate through the Uri Nala area near Sarjeevan.
Army Foils Infiltration Attempt
The Chinar Corps reported the encounter on Wednesday. They said around two to three terrorists attempted to cross into Indian territory.
In a post on X, the Army wrote, “Heavy exchange of fire between security forces and terrorists, two terrorists have been eliminated, infiltration bid foiled by the security forces in the ongoing Operation in Baramulla.”
Weapons and Ammunition Recovered
Troops recovered a large stock of weapons, ammunition, and other military equipment from the site. The operation is still underway. This infiltration attempt followed just one day after terrorists opened fire on tourists in Pahalgam. The attack took place at the scenic Baisaran meadow, also known as ‘mini Switzerland’. It killed 26 people and injured several others.
PM Modi Cuts Saudi Visit Short
Reacting to the attack, Prime Minister Narendra Modi returned to New Delhi early Wednesday. He was in Saudi Arabia on a two-day state visit, invited by Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.
PM Modi canceled his scheduled return on Wednesday night and skipped the official dinner hosted in his honor. As soon as he landed, he met National Security Advisor Ajit Doval to review the situation.
PM Modi Condemns Terror Attack
On Tuesday, the Prime Minister condemned the brutal attack in a strong message.
“I strongly condemn the terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir. Condolences to those who have lost their loved ones. I pray that the injured recover at the earliest. All possible assistance is being provided to those affected. Those behind this heinous act will be brought to justice…they will not be spared! Their evil agenda will never succeed. Our resolve to fight terrorism is unshakable, and it will get even stronger,” he wrote on X.
