Former BJP MLA Jitender Singh Shunty reported a death threat purportedly from a Khalistani fanatic to the Delhi Police on Monday.

Shunty reported that he received a call on WhatsApp from someone who threatened him and his son, speaking Punjabi.

In a letter to the Vivek Vihar SHO and Shahdara Deputy Commissioner on Monday, Shunty wrote, “I received a call on WhatsApp during which the (anonymous) caller threatened to kill me and my son Sardar Jyoti Jeet.”

Shunty, in an interview with ANI, recalled that the caller conversed with him for roughly 35 to 40 seconds before hanging up. The caller accused him and his son of speaking out “a lot against Khalistan,” he claimed.

“Yesterday, at 12.59 pm, I received a WhatsApp call during which a Khalistan supporter based in Punjab said: ‘You and your son speak a lot against Khalistan. Now your last time has arrived’. The person spoke for about 35 to 40 seconds before disconnecting the phone,” Shunty informed ANI.

Concerning himself with being singled out, Shunty wrote in his letter that he feels ‘under continual threat’ from violent extremist groups.

He wrote in his letter, “We are afraid that pro-Khalistan extremists will attack us.”

The individual claimed that their son works as a Delhi-based BJP spokesperson and has been vocally opposing Khalistani extremism in television interviews and other forums.
