In Chandigarh, Union Minister Ravneet Singh Bittu sharply criticized Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, stating that no one truly understands his intentions. He suggested that Canada has effectively replaced Pakistan by providing refuge to individuals involved in funding terrorism. Bittu dismissed the allegations made by the Canadian government against India’s Union Home Minister Amit Shah as baseless.
“Canada has become like Pakistan. Those who once resided in Pakistan have now moved to Canada, where they are well-funded in the name of Gurudwaras. I don’t understand what Justin Trudeau is thinking, but the allegations against Amit Shah are absurd,” Bittu was quoted by news agency ANI. He emphasized that India would firmly respond to any threats from Canada.
“India today is not the India of the past. Canada should not mistake India for a weak country. We will stand our ground and respond strongly,” he asserted.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) labeled the allegations against Amit Shah as “absurd and baseless.” MEA Spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal announced that the Indian government had protested these claims in the strongest terms. During a recent press briefing, Jaiswal warned that such irresponsible actions could have serious repercussions for bilateral relations.
India summoned a representative from the Canadian High Commission on Friday, issuing a formal protest. “In response to the latest claims from Canada, we summoned the representative of the Canadian High Commission. The note conveyed our strongest protest against the unfounded references to the Union Home Minister by Deputy Minister David Morrison,” said the MEA spokesperson.
These developments follow statements from Canada’s National Security and Intelligence Advisor Nathalie Drouin and Deputy Foreign Affairs Minister David Morrison, who recently confirmed a Washington Post report alleging that Amit Shah was behind efforts to target Khalistani separatists in Canada.
