Gurugram’s Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) for Traffic, responding to complaints during nighttime vehicle checks, has directed not to issue fines to vehicles at night to ensure drivers’ convenience. He stated that permission from higher authorities is required for issuing fines, emphasizing the need for approval before proceeding with any penalties.
DCP Virendra Vij said in a letter “Traffic Inspectors are ordered to command all the employees appointed under them in their jurisdiction that no vehicle should be stopped at night and no challan should be issued. Suppose it is very necessary to issue a challan to a driver as per the M.V. Act, in that situation. In that case, the challan of that vehicle should be issued as per rules only after bringing it to the notice of the concerned gazette officer/undersigned and obtaining permission.”
“The orders should be strictly followed. In case of negligence and carelessness, strict departmental action will be taken against the concerned traffic police officer as per rules with immediate effect.” He further warned that if any policemen do not follow the rules, strict actions will be taken against them.
Virendra Vij also mentioned that the primary responsibility of traffic officers working night shifts is to assist civilians and drivers, as well as to organize safe detours in the event of accidents.
Nighttime traffic personnel in Gurugram must act as Traffic Police, assisting and guiding the public and drivers, ensuring safe routes, promptly admitting injured persons to nearby trauma centers, and swiftly clearing accident sites to maintain smooth traffic flow.
After the Gurugram Traffic Police’s directive, there’s been an uptick in traffic violations, especially at night, with speeding and reckless driving leading to accidents. He emphasized continued vigilance against drunk driving to prevent major accidents.
The traffic police conduct night campaigns three to four times a week, targeting drunk drivers. Many drivers in Gurugram ignore rules and engage in reckless driving and stunt activities, particularly during nighttime hours.
