Former CM Farooq Abdullah Demands Global Inquiry Into Recent Kashmir Killings

Condemning the terrorist attacks that resulted in the deaths of a man and a couple in separate incidents in Shopian and Anantnag, Jammu and Kashmir National Conference (JKNC) leader Farooq Abdullah emphasized that terrorism remains a persistent issue in the region. He also pointed out that such incidents will negatively affect Jammu and Kashmir’s tourism industry.

In an exclusive interview with ANI, Abdullah said, “Terrorism still exists here. No matter which party member he (BJP leader and ex-Sarpanch Aijaz Ahmad Sheikh) belonged to, targeting somebody must be investigated. Whether he was killed by terrorists or people here, before pointing fingers at somebody, it needs to be investigated fast.” “Yesterday, I said that until the terrorism stops, there won’t be any talks with our neighboring country (Pakistan). We need cooperation from them. We need to identify the person who is coming here and killing the innocent. International pressure must be created, and international investigating agencies must probe the matter,” he added.

In separate incidents of terrorist shootings late Saturday night in Jammu and Kashmir’s Shopian and Anantnag districts, a former BJP Sarpanch, Aijaz Ahmad Sheikh, was killed, and a couple from Jaipur was injured, police reported. In the second incident, the couple from Jaipur was wounded in the Yannar area of South Kashmir’s Anantnag district. According to police, terrorists fired upon and injured a woman named Farha and her husband, Tabrez, in Yannar, Anantnag. The wounded were evacuated and taken to the hospital for treatment, and sources indicate that the couple’s condition is stable.
