A suspected terrorist opened fire on a 45-year-old social activist inside his home in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kupwara district. Officials said the shooting happened late on Saturday at Kandi Khas.

In a statement released on Sunday morning, the officials confirmed, “The terrorists fired at Ghulam Rasool Magray inside his residence at Kandi Khas late on Saturday.” After the attack, Magray was immediately taken to a hospital. Doctors are currently monitoring his condition.

However, the reason behind the attack is still unknown. Investigators have started looking into the case.

Massive Crackdown After Pahalgam Attack

Meanwhile, tensions are running high across Jammu and Kashmir after a brutal terrorist attack in Pahalgam. Terrorists stormed the popular tourist destination, killing 26 people and spreading fear across the country.

In response, security forces launched an aggressive crackdown on terrorists and their supporters. On Saturday, officials said they have been demolishing homes, raiding hideouts, and detaining hundreds of suspected overground workers for questioning.

Authorities have already demolished six houses linked to terrorists and their associates in just 48 hours. They also warned that more such actions are planned.

The report mentioned that the demolished properties belonged to several known militants. Among them was Ahsan ul Haq from Pulwama, who trained in Pakistan in 2018 and recently sneaked back into the Valley. Another was Shahid Ahmad Kuttay, a senior Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) commander from Shopian who had been involved in anti-national activities for years. Authorities also razed the house of Zakir Ahmad Ganie from Kulgam, who has been under surveillance since 2023 due to alleged terror links.

Moreover, officials added that a fourth house was demolished in Kupwara’s Kalaroos area. It belonged to Farooq Ahmad Tedwa and Miskeen Ahmad Tedwa, both of whom are believed to be operating from Pakistan.
