Protesting farmer leaders have questioned the recent notification of the Haryana government which guarantees the purchase of 24 crops at the Minimum Support Price (MSP) which is fixed by the Union government.
Farmer leaders said how a state government can make such claims and even issue a notification to procure all crops on MSP as the procurements in the country are done by the Union government.
“Can a state government implement an MSP guarantee Act based solely on its own financial resources? The procurement of paddy and wheat in Haryana and Punjab is always carried out under the directions of the Central government, with funds provided by the Centre for this purpose. How can the Haryana government ensure the procurement of 24 crops at MSP?” farmer leader Abhimanyu Kohar asked.
Farmer leaders in a statement also asked whether a state government can raise enough financial resources to ensure purchase at MSP on its own.
Meanwhile, Jagjit Singh Dallewal’s fast unto death has completed one month with the doctors expressing concerns of his deteriorating health. According to the medical bulletin issued by the doctors, his blood pressure has dropped from normal 130/95 to 100/70, which the doctors said is extremely worrying.
The farmer leaders at the Khanauri border have demanded that the Central and state governments, as well as Constitutional institutions, should not be in any kind of misunderstanding and urged that Jagjit Dallewal’s health should be examined by government doctors and the report of all his tests should be shared with the citizens of the country.
Farmer leaders said that a meeting of all religious, social, cultural and business organizations and unions was called at Khanauri border on Wednesday to prepare a plan of Punjab Bandh on December 30.
Apart from this, a symbolic hunger strike will be held from 10 am to 4 pm on Thursday in support of Dallewal in Punjab as well as other states
