Congress protests, demands Shah’s apology for Ambedkar remark

A large number of Congress leaders and workers, led by Delhi Congress President Devender Yadav, staged a massive protest outside the BJP headquarters at Rouse Avenue today. The demonstration was held in response to Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s alleged disparaging remarks about Bharat Ratna Dr. Bhim Rao Ambedkar. The protesters demanded an immediate apology and resignation from Amit Shah.
Carrying photographs of Dr. Ambedkar, the Congress workers chanted slogans such as “Amit Shah Maafi Mange,” “Daliton Ka Ye Apman, Nahi Sahenge,” “Amit Shah Istifa Do,” and “BJP Hai Hai.” The atmosphere was charged with calls for accountability and respect for the architect of the Indian Constitution.
Addressing the gathering, Devender Yadav demanded that Amit Shah issue a public apology for insulting Dr. Ambedkar, who not only framed the Indian Constitution but also championed the rights of marginalized communities throughout his life. Yadav accused Amit Shah of devaluing the Constitution, democracy, and the principles for which Dr. Ambedkar stood. He added that while Congress wants the country to function under the principles of the Constitution, leaders like Amit Shah and his associates seek to impose the outdated ideas of ‘Manusmriti.’
Thousands of demonstrators voiced their outrage, asserting that the people of India would not tolerate any disrespect toward Dr. Ambedkar. Devender Yadav further alleged that the remarks by Amit Shah exposed the BJP and RSS’s mindset, highlighting their disregard for a towering leader like Dr. Ambedkar, who was a beacon of hope for backward communities and an inspiration to generations.
He warned that Amit Shah’s comments had caused widespread anger and anguish, and the people of India would not forgive him unless he apologizes.
Prominent Congress leaders who participated in the protest included AICC Delhi In-charge Qazi Mohammad Nizamuddin, Sukhwinder Singh Dani, Sandeep Dikshit, Ramesh Kumar, Sidharth Rao, Jatin Sharma, former mayor Farhad Suri, DPYC President Akshay Lakra, and DPMC President Pushpa Singh.
