A shocking incident was witnessed in Coimbatore when a 37-year-old man brought Rs. 80,000 in coins to pay alimony to his estranged wife, leaving everyone in the family court astonished.

The event took place on Wednesday at the additional family court in Tamil Nadu, as reported by The Times of India. The man, who works as a call taxi owner and driver, had been directed by the court to pay Rs. 2 lakh as an interim maintenance amount to his wife.

A man carrying two white bags, filled with coins, produced 20 bundles of Rs. 2 and Rs. 1 coins before the court. A video doing rounds on social media showed him leaving the building with the bags and getting them into a car.

Upon receiving the Rs. 80,000 in coins, the presiding judge asked the man to replace the amount with currency notes, according to court procedures. Complying with the order, the man returned the next day, Thursday, and submitted the money in notes.

The judge also reminded him to pay the remaining Rs. 1.2 lakh of the interim maintenance amount at the earliest, as per the court’s ruling.
