Bangladesh to start 3 major infrastructure projects with Indian help

Bangladesh is set to begin three significant infrastructure projects, including a power plant, in September with financial support from India. The announcement came after the Indian High Commissioner paid a visit to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Tuesday.

The Indian High Commissioner in Dhaka, Pranay Verma, paid Prime Minister Hasina a visit at her official residence in Ganobhaban. They spoke about ongoing projects funded by Indian Lines of Credit and Grants, connectivity, and the Taka-Rupee exchange mechanism between Bangladesh and India.

According to the press secretary for the Bangladeshi Prime Minister, Ihsanul Karim, both the Indian representative and the Bangladeshi prime minister expressed satisfaction with the level of their countries’ relations during the meeting.

“Sheikh Hasina wished India would raise its voice, particularly for the Global South alongside the entire world, during the upcoming G20 Summit in New Delhi,” Karim said.

A spokesman at the Bangladesh premier’s office said Verma informed Hasina that two types of credit cards, one Rupee and the other Taka card, will be issued “so the people of the two countries can use the cards for their payments”.

He informed Hasina that many Bangladeshis travel to India for a variety of reasons and are eligible to use the card.
