The flood situation in northeastern state of Assam remains critical, affecting 1.61 lakh people across 15 districts, with approximately 26 reported casualties so far.
As per Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) report, one person lost his life, after drowning in floods in Hailakandi district on Tuesday.
The situation in Karimganj district has deteriorated, as 1.52 lakh individuals, including 41,711 children, have been impacted.
Around, 225 villages under Nilambazar, RK Nagar, Karimganj, and Badarpur revenue circles have been affected in Karimganj district.
Currently, 22,464 flood-affected individuals are seeking shelter in relief camps and distribution centers established by the district administration.
According to ASDMA flood report, around 470 villages under 28 revenue circles in Fifteen districts affected by floods have seen floodwaters submerge 1378.64 hectares of crop area across 11 of those districts.
On June 15, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma convened a meeting with civil and police administrations along with Kaziranga authorities to ensure the safety of animals at Kaziranga National Park, especially during floods.
The CM directed also the officials to implement necessary measures and enhance the response system.
Later, he also announced the deployment of three new commando battalions at Kaziranga. Whose task is to prevent accidents involving animals crossing the national highway and to deter poachers taking advantage of the flood situation to harm wildlife.
Additionally, he also mentioned that approximately 600 personnel from a new forest battalion would be deployed at Kaziranga National Park during the flood season.
