After cornering China, India has trained its guns on Pakistan. Islamabad, which attempted to raise the issue of Jammu and Kashmir in the United Nations’ Security Council (UNSC), came under sharp attack from Indian diplomatic team on the same forum.
Raking up the issue of Pakistan supporting Lashkare-Taiba (LeT) and Jaish-eMohammad (JeM), India drew the attention on how Islamabad’s state actors are involved in harbouring terrorists and promoting crossborder terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir.
Pakistan had already been pulled up by the UNSC for seeking to rake up Kashmir. The Council in no uncertain terms had told Pakistan not to raise the issue of Kashmir which is a bilateral issue between New Delhi and Islamabad. This came as a massive setback to Pakistan.
Close on the wheels of being upbraided by the UNSC, Pakistan came under attack from India. Countries like the US, UK, France and Russia supported the observation of the Council on Kashmir. This was shot in the arms for India which turned the tables on Pakistan raising the issue of terrorism amid support from the countries having veto power except China.
India unequivocally said that the perpetrator (Dawood Ibrahim) of the 1993 Mumbai blasts continues to enjoy protection in the neighbouring country (read Pakistan). India also said that the same country also continues to be a hub for arms trafficking and narcotics trade, along with other terrorists and terrorist entities that have been proscribed by the United Nations.
India was participating in the high level open debate of the UN Security Council. Over the past two days, Pakistan has been under fire and disappointed on the diplomatic front. Pakistan’s conspiracy to somehow bring the Kashmir issue on the international forum by hook or crook literally failed. Even the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) did not heed its request to hold a foreign ministers’ conference on Kashmir. Giving a cold shoulder to Pakistan, OIC expressed its reluctance to convene any such meeting of foreign ministers. According to sources, Pakistan has been pushing the 57-member organisation (OIC), which is the second largest intergovernmental body after the UN, for foreign ministers’ meeting since India revoked special status of J&K in August last year. But OIC rejected its proposal which came as a rude jolt to Pakistan.
Sources said that India has been continuously and relentlessly taking all the countries of OIC as well as other such groupings into confidence over abrogation of Article 370. All the countries are of the view that Kashmir is a bilateral issue to be resolved between India and Pakistan. So, there is no question whatsoever to allow Pakistan to internationlise it.
