After 22,854 people tested positive for Covid-19 in 24 hours, India marked its highest single-day spike in cases this year. The cumulative caseload of the country now stands at 1,12,85,561.
The death toll also increased to 1,58,189 with 126 new fatalities in a day.
Meanwhile, the Covid-19 active caseload is currently 1,89,226 which comprises 1.68 percent of the total infections. The recovery rate has also improved to 96.92 percent.
As part of the nationwide vaccination drive, more than 2.43 crore Covid-19 vaccine doses have been administered through 3,39,145 sessions across the states and union territories so far.
Maharashtra continued to record a massive spike in daily Covid-19 cases as the state added a total of 14,317 new infections in the last 24 hours. The state›s tally rose to 22,66,374, along with 57 virus-related deaths taking the total number of fatalities to 52,667. 7193 recoveries were also reported in the last 24 hours, taking the number to 21,06,400, while active cases crossed the 1 lakh-mark to reach 1,06,070.
Delhi recorded 409 new Covid-19 cases, the highest single-day rise in nearly two months, while the positivity rate rose to 0.59 percent. The death count climbed to 10,934 with three more fatalities.
Punjab reported 1,309 new coronavirus cases, 620 discharges and 18 deaths in the last 24 hours.
Meanwhile the Covid-19 death toll in the neighbouring state of Haryana reached 3,065 with one more fatality, while 442 fresh cases pushed the infection tally to 2,73,888. At present, there are 2,679 active cases in the state, while the recovery rate is 97.90 percent.
Goa›s coronavirus tally reached 55,676 with 69 new cases and the death toll rose to 803 with another fatality. The state’s active case count is now 704.
The southern state of Tamil Nadu reported 685 new cases, 543 recoveries and 5 deaths in the last 24 hours.
Karnataka reported 783 new cases, 406 recoveries and 2 deaths in the same period.
Kerala›s active Covid-19 cases touched 33,785 as the state recorded 2,133 fresh infections and 3,753 recoveries. The toll climbed to 4,355 with 13 more deaths. While the caseload soared to 10,86,012, total recoveries went up to 10,47,226.
Meanwhile, Jammu and Kashmir recorded 97 new Covid-19 cases, which took the tally to 1,27,363, while one new death was reported in the past 24 hours. Out of the new cases, 10 were from the Jammu Division and 65 from the Kashmir Division of the union territory.
