India has decided to resume electronic visa services for Canadian nationals after nearly two months of suspension. In a diplomatic turnaround, India has officially resumed electronic visa services for Canadian nationals, bringing an end to the nearly two-month hiatus. The suspension, initially imposed on September 21, was attributed to operational reasons, as stated by the Indian Mission in Canada and outsourcing service provider BLS International. The move followed the diplomatic row sparked by Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s claims of Indian government involvement in the killing of Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar in June.

After a comprehensive review of the security situation and considering recent measures by Canada, India decided to partially resume visa services in October. Entry visa, business visa, medical visa, and conference visa were the four categories included in the resumption, starting from October 26. Canada welcomed this decision, deeming it a positive sign, while expressing that the initial suspension should never have occurred.

The decision to reinstate visa services underscores the importance of dialogue and cooperation between nations to overcome challenges and maintain diplomatic decorum. The international community will be closely watching for further developments in this diplomatic saga and its potential impact on bilateral relations.
