India reported its highest-ever single-day spike of 64,399 cases and 861 deaths. This is the third day in a row that the country has recorded more than 60,000 cases in a single day and with that, India’s Covid-19 tally has crossed the 21-lakh mark and taken the death toll to 43,000.

Meanwhile, the Health Ministry said that the number of recoveries has surged to 14,80 884. A record 53,879 more people recovered in the past 24 hours, taking the recovery rate to 68.78%. The case fatality rate has dropped further to 2.01%. There are 6,28,747 active cases comprising 29.20% of the total caseload in the country. Over seven lakh samples have been examined for Covid-19 in a day, taking the cumulative tests conducted so far to 2,41,06,535 in the entire country.

Looking at the tallies for individual states, Maharashtra reported a spike of 12,248 new coronavirus cases, taking their total to 5,15,332.

 In Tamil Nadu 5,994 fresh infections were recorded, while 119 succumbed to the infection, taking the total number of cases to 2,96,901 and death toll to 4,927.

Delhi reported 1,300 new Covid-19 positive cases and 13 deaths in the last 24 hours. The total number of cases now stand at 1,45,427 including 1,30,587 recovered patients. In Haryana, 792 new cases of the virus and 9 deaths were reported in the last twenty-four hours, taking the total number to 41,635. The death toll stands at 483 in the state.

Uttar Pradesh reported 4,571 new Covid-19 cases, taking the total in the state to 1,22,609 as 41 more fatalities pushed the death count due to the disease to 2,069. The count of active Covid-19 cases in the state stands at 47,890, and 72,650 patients have been discharged after recovering from the disease.
