INDIA RECORDS 16K NEW COVID CASES, 86% OF THEM FROM 6 STATES

The Union Health Ministry says that Maharashtra, Kerala, Punjab, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Gujarat are behind the current coronavirus surge; Centre rushes high-level teams.As many as six states including Maharashtra, Kerala, Punjab, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Gujarat have shown a surge in new cases in the last 24 hours, said the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare on Sunday. According to the Ministry, 86.37 percent of new cases in the country are from these six states.

As many as 16,752 new cases and 113 deaths were registered in the last 24 hours, bringing the total Covid count in India to 1,10,96,731 and the total number of deaths to 1,57,051. Total active cases stand at 1,64,511. Meanwhile, the number of people vaccinated have amounted to 1,43,01,266.

Maharashtra continues to report the highest daily new cases at 8,623, followed by Kerala with 3,792, while Punjab reported 593 new cases. Tamil Nadu reported 486 cases, Karnataka reported 523, while Gujarat reported 451 new cases.

The Centre has been engaging with the states and UTs exhibiting a higher caseload of active cases and those reporting a spike in the daily new Covid-19 cases. High-level multidisciplinary teams have also been deputed to Kerala, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, West Bengal, Chhattisgarh, Punjab, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat and Jammu and Kashmir to ascertain reasons for the surge and coordinate with the State Health Departments in Covid-19 control and containment measures. During a high-level meeting, the Centre also pushed for an aggressive vaccination drive in these states.

According to the Ministry, 86.37 percent of new cases in the country are from these six states.

As many as 16,752 new cases and 113 deaths were registered in the last 24 hours, bringing the total Covid count in India to 1,10,96,731 and the total number of deaths to 1,57,051. Total active cases stand at 1,64,511. Meanwhile, the number of people vaccinated have amounted to 1,43,01,266.

It was strongly underlined that they need to follow effective surveillance strategies in respect of potential super spreading events,” the Ministry said.

In the wake of a rise in daily Covid-19 cases in Hingoli, Maharashtra, the local administration has decided to impose curfew in the district from March 1 to 7. A total of 46 new Covid-19 cases were found in Hingoli, located in the state’s Marathwada region, raising its tally to 4,083. The coronavirus infection count in Aurangabad district of Maharashtra crossed the 50,000-mark with the addition of 297 cases. The case count now stands at 50,110

Kerala reported 3,254 new Covid-19 cases and 15 deaths in the last 24 hours. There are 49,420 active cases in the state and 10,05,497 people have recovered so far. The death toll is at 4,197.

Delhi reported 197 new cases of Covid-19, 168 recoveries, and only one death. The total number of Covid-19 cases in the national capital stands at 6,39,289, while 6,27,044 patients have been recovered. The death toll of Delhi stands at 10,910.

Andhra Pradesh reported 117 new Covid-19 cases, taking total cases to 8,89,916. Total active cases are 718, recoveries are 8,82,029 and the death toll stands at 7,169.

Meanwhile, Telangana reported 176 new COVID-19 cases and one related death, taking the total tally of cases to 2,98,807 and the death toll to 1,634, respectively.

Goa’s coronavirus caseload went up by 54 and reached 54,986, while the death toll increased by one to touch 795. The recovery count in the state stood at 53,585 after 45 people were discharged during the day, leaving it with 606 active cases.

In Jammu & Kashmir, sixteen travellers among 58 fresh Covid-19 cases were reported even as one new death due to the virus took place in the last 24 hours. 11 of these cases were reported from the Jammu division and 47 from the Kashmir Valley, taking the UT’s overall case count to 1,26,441. Out of the total cases, 823 are reportedly active cases, with 207 in Jammu and 616 in Kashmir. 

Nationwide, a total of 1.07 crore people have recovered so far. 11,718 patients recovered and were discharged in the last 24 hours, while 84.19 percent of the new recovered cases were observed to be concentrated in six states.

According to the Health Ministry, India is all set to start the second phase of the Covid-19 vaccination drive on March 1, 2021, for those who are over 60 years of age and for people aged 45 and above with specified co-morbid conditions.

To ramp up the Covid-19 vaccination capacity, around 10,000 private hospitals under Ayushman Bharat PMJAY and more than 600 private hospitals under the Central Government Health Scheme will be utilised. Other private hospitals empanelled under State Govts Health Insurance Scheme can also participate as Covid-19 Vaccination Centres (CVCs).

CBI arrests TMC Birbhum district president Anubrata Mondal in cattle smuggling case

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) arrested TMC Birbhum district president Anubrata Mondal on Thursday. In the connection with the cattle smuggling case, Mondal has been arrested. Anubrata Monda is known to be a close aide of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.

Meanwhile, the TMC leader Mondal is now being taken for a medical examination. A team of CBI arrived at Mondal’s residence in Bolpur.

Earlier on 5 August, the Central Bureau of Investigation sent a notice to Mondal for interrogation in connection with a cattle smuggling case.

Moreover, on 8 August CBI asked Mondal to appear in the CBI office at Nizam’s Palace in Kolkata.

However, in connection with illegal cattle smuggling across the Indo-Bangladesh a former Border Security Force (BSF) was arrested on 1 September 2020. During the investigation, Anubrata Mondal’s name came under the scanner.

Comedian Raju Srivastava on Ventilator support after suffering heart attack

Comedian Raju Srivastava on Wednesday suffered from a heart attack after which he underwent angioplasty and now is on ventilator support.

According to sources Raju is “responding to the treatment”.

Comedian Srivastava’s health deteriorated on Tuesday night after which he suffered from a heart attack.

Reportedly, Srivastava fell unconscious when he was working out on a treadmill at the gym. Later he felt severe chest pain and then collapsed after which his trainer brought him to the hospital.

Earlier on Wednesday, Comedian Sunil Pal said that Srivastava’s health is good now. He is recovering rapidly and will be home soon.

Meanwhile, just hours before Srivastava suffered a heart attack he shared a stand-up comedy piece on his Instagram. He mimicked a few veteran actors on information being spread on Covid-19 via caller tune on the phones.

However, Srivastava got recognition by participating in The Great Indian Laughter Challenge and Big Boss. He has done roles in films like Bombay to Goa, and Aamdani Atthanni Kharcha Rupaiya. Moreover, Srivastava is also the chairman of the Uttar Pardesh Film Division Board.

PM Narendra Modi extends greetings on occasion of Raksha Bandhan

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday extended greetings on the occasion of Raksha Bandhan.

Taking to Twitter PM Modi said, “Greetings to everyone on the special occasion of Raksha Bandhan.”

Earlier, PM Modi’s Pakistani sister, Qamar Mohsin Shaikh, sent the sacred thread, Rakhi, to PM Modi. Sheikh also wished her luck for the 2024 general elections.

“I hope he (PM Modi) will call me Delhi this time. I have done all the preparations. I made this rakhi by myself by using a Reshmi ribbon with embroidery design,” Shaikh said.

Moreover, Shaikh also wrote the letter and prayed for PM Modi’s long and healthy life.

Talking about the 2024 elections, Shaikh said, “There is no doubt he will be the PM again. He deserves this because he has those capabilities, and I wish him to be PM of India every time.”

Moreover, in 2021, PM Modi’s sister Shaikh sent a rakhi and a Raksha Bandhan card.

Moreover, Union Home Minister Amit Shah also extended greetings to the people of the country.

Earlier on Wednesday, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami tied rakhi from a large number of women.

Women tied rakhi to CM Dhami at his residence and Chief Sevak Sadan auditorium and wished him a long life.

“The festival of Rakhi is a symbol of the sacred relationship of brother and sister. The festival communicates zeal and enthusiasm in life along with mutual brotherhood. Festivals are our identity. Festivals play an important role in maintaining the ancient culture,” Dhami said.

However, Raksha Bandhan is celebrated on the full moon day of the Savan month. It marks the bond of love between the siblings and this year it will be celebrated on August 11.

J&K: Terrorist attacks on army camp; 3 soldiers martyred, 2 terrorists killed

Militants attacked Rajouri military camp in Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday in which three soldiers were martyred and two terrorists were killed.

Meanwhile, ADGP Jammu, Mukesh Singh confirmed the terror attack on the army camp. He said that there is an army camp in the Pargal area of ​​the Darhal sector adjoining the LoC. As soon as they entered the area, the terrorists attacked late Wednesday night, in which two jawans were also injured.

According to ADGP Pargal is 25 km away from the Rajouri district. Taking advantage of the darkness of night, the terrorists started firing indiscriminately at the soldiers. However, on Wednesday there was an encounter between terrorists and security forces in Budgam. In the last 24 hours, this is the second encounter in the valley. Security forces had killed all three terrorists during an encounter in Budgam. TRF commander Latif Rather was also among the slain terrorists. The other two terrorists are said to be Pakistanis.

According to ADGP (Kashmir) Vijay Kumar, Latif and his two accomplices were entrusted with the responsibility of target killing in Kashmir by their masters. Latif Rather was the mastermind of the murder of Kashmiri Hindu Rahul Bhatt, besides TV actor Amrin Butt and female teacher Rajni Bala.
