In the last 24 hours, India registered 15,968 fresh Covid-19 cases, taking the tally to 10,495,147. Globally, nearly 92 million people have been infected by the virus. The country continues to be second-most affected globally, and ranks 13th among worst-hit nations by active cases. The five most affected states by total cases are Maharashtra, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Kerala. Meanwhile, India’s recoveries have surged to 1,01,29,111 pushing the national recovery rate to 96.51 per cent.
Maharashtra reported 3,556 new coronavirus cases, taking the tally to 19,78,044. In the last 24 hours, 70 people succumbed to the virus. The death toll in the state has now reached 50221. As on today, there are 52,365 active cases in the state. The recovery rate in the state is 94.75 per cent. A total of 3,009 patients were discharged today and 18,74,279 Covid-19 patients were discharged after full recovery.
Haryana reported two more coronavirus-related fatalities, taking the death toll to 2,966, while the infection tally rose to 2,65,616 with 225 fresh cases. The number of active cases in the state stands at 2,414 and a total of 2,60,236 people have so far been discharged after recovering from the disease. The recovery rate in the state is 97.97 per cent.
Bihar reported 294 new Covid-19 cases and the total count of cases has gone up to 2,56,309 cases. Four more people have died due to the disease and the death toll has to 1, 443.
Uttar Pradesh recorded 487 fresh Covid-19 cases which took its tally to 5,94,641 while 15 more fatalities pushed the death toll to 8,529. The number of active cases in the state stands at 10,132. So far, 5,75,980 people have recovered from the infection and been discharged from hospitals. The recovery rate of the state stands at 96.86 per cent. There have been 8,529 deaths due to Covid-19.
Gujarat reported 583 new coronavirus cases, taking the tally of infections to 2,53,744. The state also recorded four deaths due to the pandemic during the day, taking the death toll to 4,354. With 792 patients being discharged from hospitals, the number of recovered cases in Gujarat rose to 2,42,164.
The coronavirus recovery rate in Gujarat thus further improved to 95.44 per cent. The state now has 7,226 active case.
Andhra Pradesh registered 203 new Covid positive cases, increasing the state’s tally to 8.85 lakh, even as 231 more patients recovered from the virus to outnumber infections. Meanwhile, one more fatality in the past 24 hours took the state’s Covid-19 death toll to 7,134. The recoveries now total more than 8.75 lakh in the state, narrowing the gap between total cases and recoveries.
