On Wednesday, the Indian Embassy in Russia issued a notice, advising Indian nationals to temporarily move out of the Bryansk, Belgorod, and Kursk regions due to security concerns. The advisory emphasised the need for all Indian citizens in these areas to relocate for their safety.
In a post on X, the Embassy of India stated, “Advisory for Indian nationals in Bryansk, Belgorod and Kursk Regions. In view of the recent security incidents in Bryansk, Belgorod and Kursk regions, Indian nationals are advised to take necessary precautions and temporarily relocate outside these regions. On August 9, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar said that the government has addressed the issue of the early discharge of Indian nationals from the Russian armed forces with the appropriate authorities in Moscow. He noted that 13 Indian nationals have already been released from the Russian military. Jaishankar’s statement was in response to a query from Congress MP Adoor Prakash in the Lok Sabha, concerning Indian citizens serving in the Russian army.
Additionally, he highlighted that the government is advocating for the prompt discharge of these individuals while ensuring their safety and well-being.
“Early discharge of Indian nationals from the Russian armed forces, as well as their safety and well-being, has been taken up strongly by the government with relevant Russian authorities at various levels,” Jaishankar said.
“While the exact number of such Indian nationals is not known, information currently available indicates that 13 Indian nationals have already left the Russian armed forces, while another 66 individuals are seeking early discharge,” he added.
Jaishankar also pointed out that during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent visit to Russia, he stressed on the need of the prompt release of Indian nationals from the Russian armed forces. He added that India has taken legal measures against those who misled Indian nationals.
