India saw a single-day increase of 47,905 infections taking the country’s Covid-19 caseload to 86,83,916, while the number of people who have recuperated from the disease have surged to 80,66,501.

There are 4,89,294 active cases of coronavirus infection in the country as on date which comprises 5.63 per cent of the total caseload. The total recoveries have surged to 80,66,501 pushing the national recovery rate to 92.89 per cent, while Covid-19 case fatality rate stands at 1.48 per cent. Seventy-eight per cent of the new 47,905 coronavirus infections reported in a span of 24 hours on Thursday are from 10 states and union territories with Delhi continuing to register the highest single-day cases at 8,593 followed by Kerala and Maharashtra, according to the Union health ministry.

For the successive fifth day, new Covid-19 cases reported in a span of 24 hours did not cross the 50,000 mark, while the trend of daily new recoveries outnumbering daily new infections continued for the 40th day. As many as 52,718 new recoveries were registered in a day as against 47,905 infections during the same period. Ten states and union territories reported 78 per cent of the new cases registered in a span of 24 hours. “The gap between recovered cases and active cases has steadily widened to 75,77,207,” the ministry underlined. The ministry said that 78 per cent of the new recovered cases are concentrated in 10 states and union territories.

Maharashtra reported the maximum number of single day recoveries with 9,164 newly-recovered cases. Mumbai reported 1,069 new cases of coronavirus on Wednesday, the highest daily count so far this month, taking its tally to 2,66,746. The death toll increased to 10,503 with 22 fresh fatalities. Also, for the first time in several months, the number of active cases in the city dropped down below the 13,000-mark and is now stable at 12,674. A total of 4,907 new Covid-19 cases were reported in Maharashtra on Wednesday. As many as 125 patients succumbed to the virus in a day taking the fatality count to 45,560. The state has reported 17,31,833 coronavirus cases, including 88,070 active cases and 15,97,255 recoveries.

Delhi recorded 7,053 fresh Covid-19 cases on Thursday, a day after its daily Covid-19 tally breached the record 8,000-mark. he city also recorded 107 deaths due to Covid-19—the highest ever since the pandemic broke out, pushing the total death toll to 7,332.

A total of 2,176 new Covid-19 cases were reported in Rajasthan on Thursday, taking the total count to 2,19,327. According to the State Health Department, 2,032 deaths were registered and 1,99,943 recoveries were also reported on the same day. The active coronavirus cases here stand at 17,352.

Over 77,000 sample tests today turned out 1,728 fresh cases of Covid-19 in Andhra Pradesh, taking the infection count to 8,49,705. Also, 1,777 patients got cured while nine more died during the period, the latest bulletin said. After 8,22,011 recoveries and 6,837 deaths, the number of active coronavirus cases stood at 20,857.

Over 1,000 new Covid-19 cases were recorded in Telangana during the last 24 hours while three more persons succumbed to the virus. With 1,015 positive cases, the state’s Covid tally jumped to 2,54,666 while fresh fatalities pushed the death toll to 1,393. State’s fatality rate stands 0.54 per cent against the national average of 1.5 per cent. Health officials said 44.96 per cent of deaths were due to Covid-19 and 55.04 per cent due to comorbidities. The state continued to see more recoveries than new cases. As many as 1,716 people recovered from the virus during the last 24 hours.

With 7,000 new cases on Wednesday, Kerala became the sixth state in the country to record more than five lakh coronavirus infections till now. It has taken Kerala exactly two months to move from one lakh cases to five lakh cases. It was on September 11 that the state, which had managed to keep the spread of the disease fairly under control for first six months, had reach one lakh cases.
