India achieved a historic 18th consecutive series victory at home by defeating Bangladesh in the second Test at Green Park, Kanpur, sealing the series 2-0 and strengthening their position at the top of the World Test Championship 2023-25 cycle.
Despite losing two days to rain, India orchestrated a remarkable turnaround, showcasing exceptional batting on Day 4 and a dominant bowling display on the final day, dismissing Bangladesh for just 146 runs in the first session. Jasprit Bumrah, Ravichandran Ashwin, and Ravindra Jadeja each took three wickets, while Akash Deep added one as Bangladesh’s innings concluded in 47 overs.
Bangladesh, who batted first, ended Day 1 at 107/3 due to rain interruptions. Upon resuming play on Day 4, they were bowled out for 233. Bumrah excelled with three wickets, supported by Mohammad Siraj, Ashwin, and Akash Deep, who took two wickets each, while Jadeja rounded out his performance with one wicket, marking his 300th Test wicket.
India seized control of the match with an explosive batting display, achieving record team scores for the fastest 50, 100, 150, 200, and 250. Yashasvi Jaiswal led the charge with a rapid 72 runs off just 51 balls, while Rohit Sharma contributed 23 off 11. Shubman Gill added 36 off 33, and Virat Kohli scored 47 off 38. KL Rahul rounded off the innings with a brisk 68 off 43, declaring at 285/9 in just 34.4 overs.
India then chased down a target of 95 runs with ease, reaching it in only 17.2 overs and losing seven wickets. Jaiswal again stood out, top-scoring with 51 runs.
Since the 2012-13 season, India has remained unbeaten in home series, with their last defeat coming against Alastair Cook’s England when MS Dhoni was captain.
