Aparajita Sarangi won the election for the post of Member of Executive Committee of Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) in Kigali, on Wednesday. India got 12 votes out of 18. Aparajita Sarangi defeated Fadli Zon, MP from Parliament of Indonesia. After almost two decades India is now positioned as Member of the IPU Executive Committee.
Aparajita Sarangi is Member of Parliament from Bhubaneswar. A former Odisha cadre Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer of the 1994 batch, Sarangi quit her job and joined the BJP on 27 November 2018 to contest the 2019 Indian general election. Speaker of Lok Sabha, Om Birla congratulated the MP on the occasion.
