The Income Tax Department team has been investigating the lockers in Ganpati Plaza, Jaipur. Last month, BJP Rajya Sabha MP Kirori Lal Meena alleged that black money earned through paper leaks was kept in these lockers. On Friday, the Income Tax Department had opened two lockers in which cash worth Rs 1.48 was recovered. It had recovered Rs 9 crore in the earlier operation.
After the allegations of Kirori Lal Meena, the Income Tax Department team conducted the first search of Ganpati Plaza on October 13. According to sources, so far more than Rs 10.48 crore in cash, foreign currencies, documents of more than 2 crore 30 lakh transactions, 2 forex cards and more than 12 kg of gold have been recovered from the lockers of Ganpati Plaza. There are about 1100 lockers in the plaza. Of these, 540 lockers are not active. Some lockers have also been found, whose owner’s name and address are not available, which means that the people in whose name these lockers have been taken do not exist.
KL Meena was on strike to get these lockers opened. He said that 50 kg of gold and about Rs 500 crore of black money had been hidden in 100 lockers of Ganpati Plaza. He had also lodged a complaint in this regard with the Rajasthan Anti Corruption Bureau, Income Tax Department and Enforcement Directorate. He alleged that this money had been collected from various scams and paper leak scams in Rajasthan.
