As a result of his remarks regarding the effectiveness of allopathy in treating the COVID-19 pandemic, yoga master Swami Ramdev has filed a petition with the Supreme Court asking for protection from criminal FIRs brought against him in several states. In response to Ramdev’s request, a bench made up of Justices AS Bopanna and MM Sundresh sent notices to the Central government and the Indian Medical Association (IMA).

Swami Ramdev has asked for the consolidation of FIRs and the transfer of these cases to Delhi in his petition. The petition also asks that Ramdev’s multiple legal cases be put on hold and that he be shielded from coercive actions in connection with FIRs filed by the IMA’s Patna and Raipur branches. The intention is to transfer these FIRs to Delhi for additional investigation. Ramdev’s attorney argued that he is a public figure and that he expressed his opinion about Ayurveda being superior to allopathy at a private event.
