As the pandemic is taking a toll on healthcare workers and the administration of Gujarat, another grave problem has surfaced. Fake doctors have been caught practicing in different parts of the state under the pretext of treating Covid-19. Especially in rural areas, these fake doctors were running clinics for a long time without any degree and were compromising the health of the patients. Many patients who were treated by such doctors were referred to major hospitals as their health deteriorated. When DGP Ashish Bhatia came to know about all these cases, he issued a decree to hunt for fake doctors across the state. The special team raided different areas and arrested a large number of doctors.
An estimated 129 fake doctors have been arrested from across the state between April 1 and May 31, of which 53 bogus doctors have been nabbed from rural areas. At that time, 18 fake doctors were caught in just two days. Valsad district has the highest number of 9 fake doctors. Then 4 fake doctors have been caught in Vadodara village, 4 in Panchmahal, and one in Morbi. In most cases, people from outside Gujarat became fake doctors without degrees and harmed the villagers in the name of treatment. The special team is still searching for such doctors in different cities as well as rural areas and strict action is being taken after their arrest.
Gandhinagar police along with the medical officer raided Kalol and Dahegam and arrested four doctors. One doctor from Kalol and three doctors were arrested from Dahegam. So in the Navsari district, two bogus doctors have been expedited for practicing medicine without a degree. Two more bogus doctors from Aravalli district have been arrested.
