Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) alumnus shares the journey of transition from a great job prospect in Tata Consultancy Services to the Indian Civil Services. Rohit Kumar Singh, a retired IAS officer belonging to 1984 batch, Rajasthan cadre posted a nostalgic photo of his TCS offer letter issued June 1984 on social media.
It was 40 years ago, with a monthly salary of ₹1,300. Singh added his entry in IAS came with a starting salary of ₹2,200 during the same year.
Here’s what Singh said in his post on X (formerly Twitter): “A little more than 40 years ago, I got my first job at TCS Mumbai through campus recruitment at IIT BHU.”. With a princely salary of 1300 Rupees, the ocean view from the 11th Floor of Air India Building at Nariman Point was regal indeed!
” The letter mentioned all the terms and conditions of the job which described the salary and position, but Singh decided to join the civil services instead.
