Tovino Thomas, star of Nadikar, recently appeared on the IMDb original series “Burning Questions” to talk about the movie, amongst other things. The movie, directed by Jean Paul Lal, follows the life of superstar David Padikkal.
When asked about a performance of his that he feels is underrated, Thomas revealed, “Mayaanadhi as a film, I felt people, especially people living outside, had limited opportunities to watch. If more people had watched it, I think it was a film they would have loved.”
Responding on the one piece of advice from a fellow actor that has stuck with him, Thomas replied, “During my first few films, maybe because I worked with a bunch of really good and sensible people. Even though there is a lot of hard work, if you really love the job, you should put in your maximum even though there is struggle and we should aim to do it to perfection. Doing it and trying to do it are two different things. When you try to do something that you desire and you do it with perfection, even if you struggle, there is no fault in it. You will get the results if not today then tomorrow. I received this motto from the people I worked with during my first few films. During those films, the director, the technicians, and the actors who were with me, all of their inputs and feedback I received benefitted me.”
Thomas also talked about a genre, story, or collaboration he’s eager to pursue.
“One thing I always make sure is that the films I do should be different. I try my best not to repeat characters. Only then I feel people will be able to enjoy my performance. There should be some unpredictability. In my career, I feel there are several genres and subgenres that I have to explore. I think now, we have that space to do all of that. Earlier there were films we couldn’t even think of trying, which we now have the space to do,” he said.
When asked what he watched to prepare for this role, Thomas mentioned, “In Malayalam cinema,Udayananu Tharam while in Tamil cinema, Iruvar. Otherwise, there’s this movie that I really like called Tropical Thunder starring Ben Stiller.
All of these movies discuss an actor’s life. Then there is also something that I really like, it’s an adult cartoon series on Netflix, called BoJack Horseman. All of these titles were definitely like references to me while shooting this film.”
