How Did SC's First Law Clerks' Moot Court Competition Boost Legal Training

The Supreme Court Centre for Research & Planning organized the inaugural Supreme Court of India Law Clerks’ Moot Court Competition 2024 Law Clerks’ Moot Court Competition 2024 on April 27th and 28th within the hallowed premises of the Supreme Court. This innovative event aimed to provide law clerks associated with various Supreme Court judges’ offices with practical legal insights and hands-on experience participation and deliberations

Fifteen teams participated in the two-day competition, engaging in rigorous deliberations on key legal themes and issues. The final rounds were presided over by esteemed judges, including Justice PS Narasimha and Senior Advocate Ms. Rebecca John, ensuring a high standard of adjudication.

Key Themes and Issues

The moot court competition focused on pertinent legal topics, including the applicability and interpretation of the Specific Relief Act, Indian Contract Act, and the Constitutionality of legislative acts such as the Telegraph Act of 1885, Telecommunications Act of 2023, and IT Act of 2000. These themes reflected contemporary legal challenges and provided participants with a platform to showcase their legal acumen.

Final Rounds and Winners

In the culminating rounds, teams presented compelling arguments, showcasing their depth of legal knowledge and advocacy skills. The winning team, comprising Mr. Sayan Bhattacharya, Mr. Varun Dhond, and Ms. Ankita Gupta (Team no. 6), demonstrated exceptional legal reasoning and teamwork. Additionally, Mr. Sashi Barathvaj S and Mr. Raghav Sengupta were recognized as the Runners-Up and Mr. Sengupta was awarded the Best Speaker in the Final Rounds, further highlighting the talent and dedication of the participants.

The success of the inaugural Law Clerks’ Moot Court Competition underscores the Supreme Court’s commitment to fostering legal education and professional development among law clerks. Such initiatives not only provide valuable learning experiences but also contribute to the overall enhancement of legal discourse and advocacy skills within the legal fraternity.
