In an unprecedented move, Jumboking, a popular restaurant in Delhi, honoured the memory of Atul Subhash by printing a tribute message on their bills. The heartfelt note read, “We deeply mourn the suicide of techie Atul Subhash. His life was just as important as everyone else’s. RIP brother. We hope you finally found peace on the other side.”
Journalist and men’s rights activist Deepika Narayan Bhardwaj was among the first to share a picture of the bill on social media, expressing gratitude for the restaurant’s thoughtful gesture. “Everyone please join me in thanking Jumboking for this really kind gesture of valuing the life of Atul Subhash and reminding everyone to do so as well,” Bhardwaj wrote on X (formerly Twitter).
Her post, which went viral, received over 3.7 lakh views and thousands of supportive comments from netizens who praised the restaurant’s initiative.
The tribute from Jumboking sparked a wave of positive reactions online. One user applauded the restaurant’s action, urging food delivery services like Zomato and Swiggy to follow suit and recognise the plight of migrant workers. “Great initiative. Atul Subhash’s suicide on December 10 shocked his family and the nation. In a chilling 90-minute video and a 24-page suicide note, Subhash accused his wife, Nikita Singhania, and her family of harassment, leading to his tragic decision. His brother, Bikas Kumar, filed a complaint with the Bengaluru police, which led to an FIR being filed against four individuals.
The case took a dramatic turn when Subhash’s in-laws reportedly fled their home in Uttar Pradesh’s Jaunpur. Nikita Singhania was arrested in Gurugram, while her mother, Nisha Singhania, and brother, Anurag Singhania, were apprehended in Prayagraj. They were charged with abetting Subhash’s suicide and were brought to Bengaluru for judicial proceedings.
A local court granted them 14 days of judicial custody, while Nikita’s uncle, Sushil Singhania, who was also named in the FIR, was granted anticipatory bail by the Allahabad High Court.
In the wake of the tragedy, Atul Subhash’s family has also sought custody of their 4-year-old grandson, who was reportedly entrusted to a relative for the time being. The family’s legal efforts are ongoing as they navigate this deeply painful chapter.
