Indian-American Congressman Shri Thanedar engaged with members of the Hindu community, addressing concerns regarding the increasing attacks on Hindu temples across America and the resultant fear within the community. He expressed disappointment in the perceived lack of action by local law enforcement agencies in investigating these attacks, citing this as the impetus for introducing a resolution in the House of Representatives condemning Hinduphobia, anti-Hindu bigotry, hate, and intolerance.

The resolution, introduced on April 10, has been referred to the House Committee on Oversight and Accountability. Thanedar emphasized the need for bipartisan support, asserting that the resolution aligns with fundamental American values of freedom, equality, and racial justice. He reiterated his commitment to combating racism and seeking justice for his community.

Vijay Sadhawal, another Indian-American present at the event, voiced concerns about bias in the American media against American Hindus. He viewed the resolution as a crucial step in amplifying the voice of the Hindu community and safeguarding its rights in the United States.

The resolution emphasises the prejudice, misinformation, harassment, discrimination, and hate speech that Hindu Americans must deal with. In addition to praising their contributions to the nation, it proclaims that Hindu diversity is welcome here. It also denounces racism against Hindus and Hinduphobia.

The significance of resolving these concerns is shown by recent occurrences like the defacement of a Hindu temple in Newark with pro-Khalistani slogans and the vandalism of California’s Sherawali Temple. S Jaishankar, the minister of external affairs, had already voiced alarm over these kinds of occurrences and emphasised the necessity of opposing extremists and separatists.
