INLD MLA Abhay Chautala’s troubles from the Ellenabad assembly seat in Haryana have deepened. A hearing took place in the Punjab-Haryana High Court on Monday regarding the allegations of submitting a false educational qualification affidavit during the elections. The High Court has issued a notice to the Election Commission of India (ECI) seeking its reply. In the petition filed in the High Court, a demand has been made to register a criminal case against Abhay Chautala and get his BA degree investigated.
Petitioner Jitendra Jatasara, in the petition filed through advocate Pradeep Rapadia, said that during the 2014 elections, Abhay Chautala stated in the affidavit that his highest educational qualification was BA from Magadh University, Bodh Gaya.
In the affidavit filed before the Election Commission during the 2019 and 2021 elections, Abhay Chautala stated that his highest educational qualification was 10th pass. Similarly, false information regarding income tax was also given in the affidavit. In this regard, the petitioner wrote a letter to the Election Commission requesting to register a criminal case against Abhay Chautala, but the Election Commission did not take any action.
After hearing the arguments of petitioner’s lawyer Pradeep Rapadia, the bench of High Court judges Sudhir Singh and Sumit Goyal issued a notice to the Election Commission of India and directed it to reply by January 30, 2024.
