Former England fast bowler Steven Finn praised Jasprit Bumrah for his remarkable performance in India’s victory over Australia in the first Test in Perth. Bumrah, who captained India during the match, took eight wickets, including five in the first innings. Finn described Bumrah’s effort as a “masterclass,” highlighting how effectively he dominated with the ball.
“I was impressed with Jaiswal’s 161, but the player I enjoyed watching most, and who I think is the best in the world right now, is Jasprit Bumrah. He’s incredible. Watching him bowl, I thought, ‘I’m glad I’m not the one putting on the pads,’” Finn said during a TNT Sports discussion with former England captain Alastair Cook.
Furthermore, Alastair Cook expressed his surprise at India’s impressive performance. He admitted he was shocked by their dominance in Perth, a venue where Australia traditionally excels.
“I was surprised that India went to Australia and won in a place that is traditionally very hard for visiting teams. Perth, even with the new stadium, is a tough place to play. Australia rarely loses there. India showed a lot of courage,” Cook remarked.
In addition, Australian batsman Steve Smith also praised Bumrah for his unorthodox skills. He described Bumrah’s action as unique and pointed out his exceptional bowling abilities.
Bumrah, leading India in place of Rohit Sharma, was named ‘Player of the Match’ for his outstanding performance. He took eight wickets, leading India to a 295-run victory.
“His run-up is awkward from the start. The way he runs in and the final part of his action are unlike anyone else. Every time I face him, it takes a few balls to adjust to his rhythm,” Smith explained. Smith was one of the Australian players dismissed by Bumrah in the first innings.
