Garbage collection services in the villages of Haryana will come to a halt for three days, beginning on October 10. This shutdown is the result of a statewide strike organized by approximately 11 thousand rural sanitation workers, who are taking action against the government’s alleged breach of promises. To ensure the effectiveness of this strike, the Rural Safai Karmachari Union Haryana, affiliated with CITU, has diligently completed all necessary preparations.
Union General Secretary Vinod Kumar said that four rounds of talks have been held with Panchayat Minister Devendra Singh Babli on 20 August 2022, 9 September 2022, 26 December 2022 and 28 June 2023. The minister assured a solution every time, but till date there has been no solution to the demands and problems of the rural sanitation workers.
Under compulsion, the sanitation workers are forced to go on strike. Vinod Kumar told that in the talks held between the officers and union representatives under the chairmanship of Additional Chief Secretary of Development and Panchayat Department on January 23, salary hike, 3 percent increase in annual salary, monthly uniform washing allowance and allowance for work tools were discussed. Consent has been reached and since April 17, this file is lying on the Chief Minister’s table for approval.
Union leaders said that monthly salary of Rs 26000, taking on the payroll of BDPO, appointing one employee for a population of 400, linking the salary with inflation, giving annual allowance of work tool block as agreed, paying washing allowance and salary.
