Ahead of the Lok Sabha and Assembly elections to be slated next year, all  political factions
have started preparations regarding  the same, and in this series,  the Election Commission
of India (ECI) has come up with the necessary steps to ensure the smooth conductions of
polls. The ECI had invited fresh applications  for voter registration  and deletion of votes as
well ahead of the polls. Along with this, applications were also sought by the ECI from those who wanted to shift their votes to some other place or get any correction done in it.
According to data from the ECI, about four and a half lakh applications have been received
for fresh voter registration, deletion, correction and shifting. After issuing the necessary
guidelines, this process started in the month of October and continued till December 9. For
the aforementioned process, the option of Voter Helpline App (VHA) was also made
available to apply for the same.  After the completion of the application process, the voter
list is to be published on January 5. Notably,  the qualifying date for the candidates has been fixed as January 1, 2024. The ECI had initiated a special campaign to collect new votes at the polling stations on 4-5th November and 2-3 December.
According to the information received from the ECI, applications have been received in a
total of four categories as many as 274424 lakh candidates who under 18 years and above
category, have applied for fresh vote. Apart from this, the Election Commission has received a total of 70164 and 94657 applications for cancellation and shifting as well as correction in the votes respectively. Thus, In this regard, a total of 439524 requests have been received by the Commission in all four aforementioned categories.
Divulging more details, Dr Rajkumar Lohan, Joint Chief Electoral Officer,
Election department said that the process of application pertaining to registration of fresh
voters was initiated. Apart from this, the deletion, correction and shifting of votes were also
dealt with appropriately based on the requests of the candidates Received." The concerned candidates also availed the platform of Voters Helpline App (VHA) applying for the aforementioned process along with additional information. The ECI has received about four and a half lakh applications in the four categories of fresh vote, deletion, correction and shifting'', he added.
It is pertinent to mention the application for getting registered form for fresh candidates
can be made till 10 days before the scheduled nomination date for the candidate and
cancellation of the voters occurs due to several factors including non-submission of required documents and invalid information.
