Mukhya Mantri Vivah Shagun Yojna (MMVSY) was brought into existence in Haryana to honour as well as to provide financial assistance to the girl child and to ensure that the girls from Schedule caste and Backward castes are married gracefully. For this purpose, a grant of Rs 71000 is being given to the celebration of the marriage of their daughters under this scheme. Amid this, it came to notice that the state government is likely to come up with a new set of rules making these mandatory for those concerned families willing to take the benefit of the scheme so that no one can misuse the benefits of the scheme. In this series, it has been clarified on the part of the state government that the girls or their parents of concerned families will intimate the government ahead of marriage, be it either by sending a marriage card or sending a letter to the authorities. Initially, the same seems quite strange as to why there is a need to send the marriage invitation to the government. This provision is being brought into force soon so that only eligible candidates or their parents can get the benefit of the scheme, not ineligible.

According to the data provided by the concerned Ministry of the state government that as many as 75256 applications were received by the state government for the financial assistance to be given under the scheme and out of the total applications 55565 candidates were provided financial assistance which is nearly 20% of the total applications received so far in last 2 years. The government is continuously making people informed about the scheme made for the weaker sections of the society so that the poor people can be benefitted from the concerned schemes.

Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal said that to provide financial assistance to the girls hailing from marginalised sections of the society, the state government had brought the scheme in force. But in wake of continuous incidents of misuse of the scheme, the government is likely to bring a set of new rules under the scheme, Lal said. Further, he said, as a part of this sharing a marriage card or sending an application having information about the marriage by the concerned candidate or family persons will be mandatory to get the benefits of the scheme. It is learnt too that several couples do not get their marriage registered and given this, the government is most likely to make it official for the beneficiaries in the future.
