HARYANA RANKS TOP IN ANEMIA INDEX AMONG 29 STATES

Haryana has the best Anemia Mukt Bharat (AMB) Index among 29 states in the country, according to a recently released scorecard of the Anemia Mukt Bharat (AMB) Index by the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare (MOH&FW). The ‘Anemia Mukt Bharat’, an initiative of the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare and UNICEF, has been launched to reduce the prevalence of Anemia all over India. Haryana ranked at the top slot with an AMB Index of 46.7.

The information came to light during the 8th Governing Body Meeting of the State Health Society of the National Health Mission (NHM) in Chandigarh.

The meeting was presided over by the Haryana Chief Secretary, Vijai Vardhan who was apprised by the Additional Chief Secretary, Health, Rajeev Arora about the numerous achievements and the newly formulated policies of the NHM.

Sharing the unique features of the Anemia Mukt Haryana programme, it was informed that Chief Minister, Manohar Lal, had announced the scheme “ATAL ABHIYAAN” – Assuring Total Anemia Limit – Abhiyaan” in April 2018 to reduce anemia by implementing 6 x 6 x 6 strategy on the lines of Anemia Mukt Bharat.

Furthermore, it was for the first time in the year 2019-20 that the state had achieved 93 percent of immunization. He was further informed that the State Health Department is providing immunization services against 12 vaccine-preventable diseases (VPDs) and these vaccines play a vital role in a consistent decline in Infant Mortality Rate (IMR) and Under 5 Mortality Rate (U5MR).

Haryana is one of 11 states in the country that has achieved National Health Policy targets well before the set timeline i.e. MMR <100 by 2020.

On the facilities being rendered to accredited Social Health Activist – ASHA workers – the NHM Mission Director informed the Chief Secretary that the NHM plans to start a performance-based incentive for ASHA by giving smartphones with sim and mobile data to them along with dress allowance.

The NHM also plans to provide social security benefits under Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana, Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana, Pradhan Mantri Shram Yogi Maandhan Yojana to ASHA workers.
