Haryana Police is on the cusp of a major leap into an advanced and high-tech era, leveraging cutting-edge technology to enhance women’s safety. This transformative endeavour is exemplified by the launch of the innovative “Safe Journey” initiative on the Haryana 112 platform. This forward-looking program, rooted in the principles of secure travel, is poised to revolutionize women’s safety across the state, fostering a heightened sense of security and empowerment as they embark on their journeys.

This information was shared here on Wednesday during a meeting chaired by Director General of Police Shri Shatrujeet Kapur at the Haryana 112 office in Panchkula. DGP Kapur announced that Haryana 112 is launching a new initiative called “Safe Journey” for women passengers. Under this initiative, women can register themselves by dialling 112 and sharing their travel information with the Haryana 112 team in advance. This includes their name, mobile number, place of departure, place of arrival, and expected time of departure and arrival. The Haryana 112 team will then remain in constant contact with the woman until she reaches her destination safely, tracking her location throughout the journey. The meeting also discussed the development of a WhatsApp number to provide security to women and keep residents updated about Haryana 112. ADGP Telecom-IT Arshinder Chawla said that Haryana Police is putting stickers on public transport vehicles such as Ola, Uber, and autos that contain the driver’s name, mobile number, and vehicle number. The database of auto drivers and public transport in the state is expected to be ready by October 31.

Emergency Response Vehicles (ERVS) are geared towards ensuring swift assistance within a window of 8 to 15 minutes in urban and rural areas. The meeting revealed that in September 2023, Haryana 112 received over 522,000 calls. It was particularly commendable that Haryana 112 achieved an average response time of 8 minutes and 20 seconds for reaching destinations during the month of September. The meeting was attended by Additional Director General of Police Cyber OP Singh, Additional Director General of Police Haryana 112 and IT Arshinder Chawla, ADGP Law and Order Mamta Singh, IG Modernization Amitabh Dhillon, IG Admin Sanjay Kumar, IG Ambala, and Police Commissioner Sibas Kaviraj, among others.
