In a concerted effort to combat the escalating threat of cybercrime, the Haryana Police has taken a decisive step by identifying and closely monitoring 50 hotspot areas across seven states notorious for cyber fraud activities. This strategic move involves deploying specialized cyber teams with the primary objective of not only curbing ongoing cyber fraud but also ensuring the apprehension and prosecution of perpetrators.
Shatrujeet Kapur, the Director General of Police (DGP) for Haryana, disclosed that Rajasthan emerges as a focal point for cyber fraud cases impacting Haryana, with a staggering 21 identified hotspots within the state. Analogous areas exhibiting heightened cybercrime activities were pinpointed in other states, including Uttar Pradesh, Jharkhand, Delhi, West Bengal, and Telangana. The proactive deployment of dedicated cyber teams in these identified regions underscores the state’s commitment to effectively counter the growing menace of cyber fraud.
The comprehensive initiative extends beyond the confines of law enforcement agencies. It involves a collaborative approach, with bank nodal officers working in tandem with the Cyber Helpline 1930 team. Their joint efforts are geared towards a swift and coordinated response, specifically targeting the critical first hour after reported incidents. During this crucial period, the focus is on freezing the financial assets of cybercriminals, disrupting their operations, and facilitating subsequent legal action.
Director General Shatrujeet Kapur emphasized the paramount importance of public vigilance in the face of evolving cyber threats. He issued a stern warning against clicking on suspicious links and urged individuals to exercise caution when sharing personal banking information. Recognizing that even a minor lapse in cybersecurity practices can render individuals vulnerable to cyber fraud, Kapur underscored the collective responsibility to thwart these threats.
As the landscape of cyber threats continues to evolve, this multi-faceted initiative signifies a proactive and collaborative approach by Haryana Police, not only in identifying and targeting cybercrime hotspots but also in engaging with key stakeholders to fortify the defenses against these digital threats.
