CHANDIGARH: The Broda by-election is yet to be announced but all political parties in the state have started mulling over a string of strategies to emerge a winner. Ahead of the election, all parties have called on a couple of meetings to discuss the election strategy. The Jats, who constitute about 25-27% of total votes, are the game-changer and most parties are eyeing their voters.

The state’s political parties are leaving no stone unturned to attract them. The BJP, its partner Jan Nayak Party (JJP), Congress and INLD continue to make every possible effort to win the segment, but given ongoing political scenarios in the state, it is going to be an uphill task for all. All parties have fielded their senior leadership in the area before the announcement of the election so that they can have a sense of what is going on the ground. The Congress has been dominant at the Assembly seat and the BJP-JJP alliance will have to face a tough battle here. Apart from this, both parties lack a particular vote-bank. In the wake of this, they are mulling over the selection of a suitable candidate. Amid the ongoing speculations, it is learned that most parties are likely to field a Jat candidate on the seat.

Political experts believe that selecting the Jat stalwart O.P. Dhankhar for the post of state president indicates a lot about the BJP’s election strategy. It is being considered a part of the Broda byelection to woo the Jat voters. The party high command considers that Dhankhar would be a substitute to Bhupinder Singh Hooda in Congress, Abhay Singh Chautala in INLD and Dushyant Chautala in JJP in terms of Jat politics in the state.
