Haryana experienced another tremor as an earthquake struck late Tuesday night, registering a magnitude of 3.0 on the Richter scale. The National Seismology Center (NCS) identified its epicenter in Panipat.
State has witnessed its second earthquake in the past month. Prior to this recent event, the region has encountered a series of tremors, predominantly ranging between 3.0 to 4.0 in intensity.According to NCS, an earthquake occurred in Panipat region on Tuesday-Wednesday night on 12.38.07. Its center was 5 kilometers deep underground.
Earlier also an earthquake had occurred in Haryana on 26 November. Its epicenter was in Sonipat, adjacent to Panipat and its intensity was also 3.0 & tremors were felt around 4 in the morning. This was also at a depth of 5 kilometers. The Earth’s surface is divided into tectonic plates, floating atop liquid magma. Occasionally, these plates collide, releasing energy from below. When this energy disrupts and seeks an outlet, earthquakes are triggered.
