On Thursday, India witnessed skipper Harmanpreet Kaur’s heart wrenching run out in the semifinal of the Women’s T20 World Cup, which led India to a five-run defeat against Australia.
The run out played a major role in Australia’s victory, as the skipper was leading from the front in the whole match.
India’s former opener Virendra Sehwag put his remarks, which led everyone back to 2019 memories when MS Dhoni got run out against New Zealand back in the ICC Men’s World Cup semifinal at Old Trafford in Manchester.
Considering this event Sehwag took to his Instagram and tweeted, “Match winner at the crease and Run out in a semi-final.
We have had this heartbreak before. Sad to see India out. Were running away with the game but Australia proved again why they are a v difficult side to beat. Well tried girls #INDWvAUSW.”
Another Indian veteran batter VVS Laxman also moaned on Kaur’s run out and wrote, “Tough luck Team India. #HarmanpreetKaur % #JemimahRodrigues looked like taking the game away but the Aussies fought back brilliantly & in the end India have fallen short.
Harmanpreet’s runout was the turning point & India will be disappointed to miss out on the finals. #INDWvAUSW.”
Harmanpreet Kaur suffered a freak dismissal at a crucial juncture in the game. The India captain, who made it out into the middle despite suffering from illness, was playing beautifully to reach her half-century and put her side in contention to chase down Australia’s 172/4.
But a bizarre moment sent Kaur back to the dugout when her bat jammed in the wicket as she ran it in, leaving her short of her ground as she was run out for 52.

Brief score: India 167/8 lost to Australia 172/4 by 5 runs.
