Samantha, one of South cinema’s biggest names, turns 37 on Sunday (April 28). The actress emerged as a pan-India star with her work in ‘The Family Man 2’, which premiered on Prime Video in 2021. The show featured her as the fierce yet vulnerable Raji, a character she did complete justice to. It also saw her work with Sharib Hashmi. In an exclusive interaction with ‘The Daily Guardian’, ‘JK’ revealed that he had doubts about Sam being able to pull off the role but soon realised that his reservations were unjustified.

“She was filming an interrogation scene when I first saw her on the set. We hadn’t interacted up till that point. She came across as petite and it hardly looked as if one would be scared of her. I wondered ki ye Rajji kaise pull off karengi. However, she became a different person when the camera started rolling. I was highly impressed,” said the actor.

Sharib added that he enjoyed working with Samantha and even revealed that she apologised to her several times after accidentally injuring him during rehearsals.

“Then when we shot, she proved to be a great co-star. There’s a scene where she hits me with a gun. During rehearsals, she hit me on the lip with the gun. Mujhe thodi sai chot aayi. She felt saying sorry throughout the day,” said Sharib.

‘The Family Man 2’, the brainchild of creators Raj and DK, featured Manoj Bajpayee as a senior analyst in Threat Analysis and Surveillance Cell (TASC) who juggles between personal commitments and professional challenges. Major portions of the show featured Tamil dialogues. The series attained cult status with its layered narrative and political undertones. The cast included Priyamani, Sharad Kelkar, Uday Mahesh, and Shreya Dhanwanthary.

Coming back to Samantha, she will soon be seen in Citadel Honey Bunny, co-starring Varun Dhawan, It is set to premiere on Prime Video on a yet-to-be-announced date.
