Authorities on Tuesday imposed a curfew in Haryana’s Nuh district after dispute broke out during an attempt to stop a Vishva Hindu Parishad march, which included throwing stones and setting cars on fire. Four people were killed and numerous others, including policemen, were injured, according to officials.

The situation in Nuh remained tight despite the absence of any new reports of violence. Security has reportedly been increased in Nuh and other locations. A group of 70 to 80 people is accused of torching a mosque in Gurgaon early on Tuesday morning and killing the naib imam.  Anjuman Jama Masjid in sector 57 caught fire on Monday night, according to DCP (East) Nitish Aggarwal.

“We have identified some of the accused and action will be taken soon,” DCP said. He again said that the accused opened fire during the incident. “The naib imam and another man were badly injured and taken to the hospital. The imam reportedly had stab injuries,” the DCP further said.

Another Police commissioner Kala Ramachandran said, “One person was killed and another injured when a group of men attacked Anjuman mosque in sector 57 in the area of PS Sec 56 GGM today morning at about 12:10 am. Fire tenders put out the fire. The attackers have been identified by the police and following raids conducted throughout the night, several of the attackers have been rounded up. Security around places of worship has been tightened. Police and administration is holding meetings with prominent members of both communities to ensure peace.”

Just after midnight, a mob reportedly attacked a mosque in Gurgaram, caused one person’s death, and injured a number of others. Additionally, a fire was started at the Sector 57 mosque, Anjuman Jama Masjid. Firefighting equipment was dispatched quickly to the scene, which put out the fire.

Earlier as news of the clash in Nuh spread, mobs in Sohna pelted stones and set afire four vehicles and a shop, belonging to people from that community. Protesters there blocked a road for hours.

On Monday, during a religious procession in Haryana’s Nuh, fights broke out between two groups. The violence resulted in the deaths of four people, including two members of the Home Guard, and at least 45 other injuries. Additionally, several automobiles were set on fire. In order to lower the high levels of racial enmity in Nuh, internet connectivity has been suspended.
