SRINAGAR: J&K Congress said on Thursday that it is still awaiting the nod from the party high command whether the party would support People’s Alliance for Gupkar declaration (PAGD), helping the alliance take control of 12 DDCs in Jammu and Kashmir.

Earlier, former Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and many Congress leaders accused the J&K administration and police of doing “BJP’s bidding” in the Union territory. Both the parties have said that police and administration were busy collecting independent candidates for the BJP.

Omar even tweeted saying, “It seems that the government does not have enough to do and has branched out into this line of work as well.”

Earlier J&K Congress chief Ghulam Ahmad Mir was quoted in the media saying that the BJP has put on the job Deputy Commissioners and SSPs to find and bring the independent candidates to the party.

It is in place to mention that the BJP emerged as a single largest party with 75 seats, but has the majority only in 5 DDCs of the Jammu region.

Amid allegations and accusations, the Congress is also watching very closely all the developments and it fears that even among its own 26 members some of them may switch over to the saffron side.

With over 50 independent candidates winning in the DDC elections in Jammu and Kashmir, they play a key role in several DDCs.
