In a notable development, the Anti-Corruption Bureau of Haryana apprehended a GST superintendent and a chartered accountant in the act of accepting a bribe of Rs 7 lakh from a businessman. The individuals taken into custody have been identified as GST superintendent Prem Raj Meena and CA Pankaj Khurana. A case has been filed against them under several sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act at the ACB police station in Karnal.

ACB team is also learned to have recovered an additional amount of Rs 3 lakh from the personal car of the CA, and Rs 50,000 from Meena’s official car. With this, the total recovery of bribe money from the two has exceeded Rs 10.50 lakh. “Further investigation is in progress to collect evidence against the accused,” officials said.

According to information, the accused had demanded an amount of Rs 13 lakh to settle a case regarding a penalty. “An amount of Rs 3.50 lakh was paid on Wednesday, while the final amount was to be handed over on Friday. The complainant, meanwhile informed the ACB, which laid the trap after completing the formalities,” said a source.
