The Rajasthan Police is actively engaged in combating cybercrime, and this heightened vigilance underscores the seriousness with which they are tackling the issue. In light of this, the Cyber Crime DGP Dr Ravi Prakash Mehra, has issued a notice to the public, urging them not to fall prey to cybercriminals.
He said, “If anyone demands money from you, report it to the police immediately so that your funds can be safeguarded. Cyber fraud primarily occurs due to greed and ignorance. To protect yourself from cybercrime in this digital age, cyber awareness is crucial.”
According to Dr Ravi Prakash Mehra, the Cyber Security DGP, most cybercrimes involve enticing offers, fake emails, links, messages, or phone calls. Various authorities, including banks and the police department, regularly issue advisories related to cyber awareness.
Dr Mehra commended the efforts of the former Jodhpur police in tackling a recent cybercrime case.
On 28 November 2022, craft trader Arvind Kalani from Mahamandir police jurisdiction was a victim of a ₹16 crore scam. With the assistance of the Cyber Cell, the police have already refunded over ₹11 crore to the victim’s account, while efforts to recover the remaining amount are ongoing. This case involved a major scam, with the stolen funds being transferred to different accounts. Jodhpur police have arrested 14 individuals from various states in connection with this case.
Dr Mehra emphasized that the time gap between reporting and the occurrence of cybercrime often hinders the recovery of stolen funds. He urged the public to remain vigilant and cautious about such crimes, advising them not to click on suspicious links, share personal information with strangers, or engage with unsolicited messages. In case of any incident, he encouraged people to call 1930 immediately and inform the relevant police station to ensure the protection of their finances.
Cybercrime is on the rise in Jaipur, with daily cases being reported across various police stations, including specialized cybercrime units. Over the past six months, approximately 50 complaints have been filed, in addition to other FIRs registered at these stations. Cyber-savvy people tend to ignore such messages, but those driven by greed and allure often fall victim to these scams, surrendering their lifetime earnings to cyber criminals.
