The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP)-led Delhi government is taking extensive measures to combat pollution in the national capital. Today, Delhi’s Environment Minister, Gopal Rai, convened a review meeting at the Delhi Secretariat, focusing on eliminating industrial pollution from the city. The meeting included representatives from the Delhi Pollution Control Committee (DPCC), Environment Department, Delhi State Industrial and Infrastructure Development Corporation (DSIIDC), and the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD).
Following the meeting, Minister Gopal Rai announced the formation of 58 inspection teams by DPCC and DSIIDC to regularly monitor industrial units across Delhi. In addition, 191 patrol teams from various departments have been deployed to supervise the disposal of industrial waste throughout the city.
As part of Delhi’s Winter Action Plan—unveiled on September 25—Minister Rai emphasized the goal of reducing pollution during the colder months. This plan, which outlines 21 key focus areas, includes monitoring industrial pollution and managing waste disposal. The 191 patrol teams will work to ensure that industrial waste is properly disposed of across Delhi. The 58 inspection teams from DPCC and DSIIDC will conduct regular checks on industrial units to verify compliance with pollution control guidelines, submitting their reports periodically to the Environment Department.
These teams are also authorized to
enforce strict action against any non-compliant
industrial units.
Minister Rai highlighted that 1,901 registered industrial units in Delhi have transitioned to using Piped Natural Gas (PNG) and are mandated to operate only with approved fuels. Any unit that fails to meet environmental standards will face severe penalties from the relevant departments. Additionally, he directed DPCC and other departments to ensure consistent waste collection from industrial areas, enforce scientific disposal practices, and strictly monitor fuel regulations.
